Impedance matching units(IMU’s) are required to transform the output impedance of a transmitter to the characteristic impedance of the transmission line when transmission line with a characteristic impedance other than 50 + j0 is being used. IMU’s typically consist of an appropriately rated “L” network in a shielded indoor housing with input and output provisions consistent with the transmitter power.
